Shine A Light on Antisemitism Civic Courage Award
The 2023 Shine A Light on Antisemitism Civic Courage Award honors students and educators who exemplify what it means to be upstanding citizens when it comes to taking action against antisemitism and countering hate in their communities. Award winners will have made a thoughtful and lasting impact on their communities, regardless of size.
Two student award winners will be selected from each age group: Middle School, High School, and College/University.
Two educator award winners will be selected from each education setting: Elementary School, Middle School, High School, and College/University.
Each prize winner will receive $2,000. Nominations are due by November 10, 2023. The awards committee will announce the winners by November 27, 2023. The winners may be featured at the Shine A Light event in New York City on December 11, 2023.
STUDENT NOMINATIONS
This award recognizes students who exemplify what it means to be upstanding citizens when it comes to taking action against antisemitism and countering hate in their school communities through expanded allyship and compassion. Award winners will have made a thoughtful and lasting impact on their communities, regardless of size.
The nominees will have made a positive impact by exemplifying one or more of the following:
- Cultivating appreciation for Jewish identity, values, or culture
- Deepening or maintaining interfaith partnerships and understanding
- Fostering dialogue and education surrounding antisemitism
- Implementing projects and initiatives that celebrate diversity and counter hate and antisemitism.
There will be two student winners from each age group: Middle School, High School, and College/University. Each prize winner will receive $2,000.

- Students may not nominate themselves.
STAFF/EDUCATOR NOMINATIONS
This award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated a significant commitment to combating antisemitism and upholding diversity beyond the scope of their professional responsibilities. Nominees are individuals who actively work to build a more inclusive, engaged, and equitable community. Nominees may include, but are not limited to, faculty, staff, and administrators in K-12 and post-secondary educational ecosystems. Awardees will have made thoughtful and lasting impacts on their communities, regardless of size.
Nominees’ contributions may have resulted in a wide range of identifiable outcomes, including, but not limited to:
- Advancing community engagement in dialogue around antisemitism
- Reforming and/or initiating new practices and policies within their department/institution
- Implementing projects and initiatives that celebrate diversity
